Guide to EV recharging adjustments

Artikkel oppdatert ‪10/03/2025‬

Getaround rental prices don't include the cost of energy. You are not required to provide the car fully charged, however we recommend that you try to have the car as fully charged as possible. You are required to have at least 25% of battery charge available for the driver at the beginning of the rental.

For non-Connect rentals

The battery level reading is done by the driver during the pickup and return inspections. This value is then used to make an automatic battery charge adjustment.

For Connect rentals

Manual readings

The battery level reading is done by the driver during the pickup and return inspections. This value is then used to make an automatic battery charge adjustment.

Automatic readings

If the Getaround Connect in your car is able to detect the energy levels automatically, the levels will be detected during the pickup and return inspections.

How does pricing work for energy?

These energy level checks are used to determine whether the car has been returned with more or less battery charge than when the rental began. Energy is charged for each 10% segment missing (with the exception of the 80-100% segment which will never be charged/refunded to the Owner or Driver).

The driver will be charged the following amounts based on the car’s energy level:

  • 0%-10% : €5/50kr
  • 10%-20%: €5/50kr
  • 20%-30%: €2,5/25kr
  • 30%–40%: €2,5/25kr
  • 40%–50%: €2,5/25kr
  • 50%–60%: €2,5/25kr
  • 60%–70%: €2,5/25kr
  • 70%-80%: €2,5/25kr
  • 80%-100%: no charge

If the driver brings the car back with more energy than when the rental began, Getaround will reimburse them the energy price and the corresponding amount will be deducted from your earnings.

The car has no dedicated recharging point

If the driver brings back the car with less energy than when the rental began, Getaround will charge them with the energy price and will pay you the corresponding amount.

In addition to this, you will be compensated €2 (20kr) per 10% of missing energy to compensate you for the time required to recharge the car.

If the driver returns the car with a higher charge than when the rental began, Getaround will compensate them for the extra charge which will be deducted from your earnings.

The car has a dedicated charging point

If the driver brings back the car with less energy than when the rental began, Getaround will charge them with the energy price and will pay you the corresponding amount.

We will inform drivers that they need to start charging the car when they return it. If the driver has any difficulties charging the car, they’ll be able to report the issue. You will receive an alert with the details they’ve given about the problem.

If the car isn’t charging and the driver hasn’t reported any issues, you can request compensation. You can do this up to 2 working days after a finished rental. You’ll receive €20/200kr if we can determine that the car wasn’t charging and the driver didn’t report any problems. When the rental has ended, go to “Car wasn’t charging at the end of the rental” on the rental page to make your request.

In trip charging costs

If you receive invoices for charging that took place during a drivers rental period, you can submit the relevant documents in order to be reimbursed, for more information you can check this article
